Similar to any IT project, the likely hood of success in
a search (full time or consulting) is greatly enhanced by following a
proven methodology for planning and executing the steps necessary.
BPS' methodology follows a
consistent, time-tested process that is divided into four phases,
ensuring the optimum results at the end of each phase.
PHASE ONE - Plan & Research
During our initial phase we review our
client's particular industry, markets, organization, and technical
information regarding the position to be filled. We also seek to
understand the company's environment, which includes learning about
the work atmosphere and personalities of the people this person will
work for and with, as well as coming to know what causes individual
success or failure at this firm and thoroughly understanding the
vision of the company. If confidentiality allows, we spend time with
the supervisor and peers of the position in order to determine the
management's style and personality. Since our goal is to find
someone in whom the boss will have confidence, both in ability and in
style, this part of the process is crucial.
PHASE TWO - Source, Recruit, Screen & Interview
Once the position specification is
approved by BPS’ management, we then begin the search for those
individuals with closely matching qualifications. BPS does not
utilize the typical search methods of posting positions on job sites
or in the newspaper. It is our practice to search comparable
companies in the industry and to use a direct and proactive approach
in locating qualified candidates who have well-established patterns of
accomplishment and success in a similar position. This process is
designed to yield several qualified candidates to compare and evaluate
competitively against each other and against competency profiles of
peers within the company.
Qualified candidates are thoroughly
interviewed to obtain a realistic and comprehensive understanding of
accomplishments, capabilities and potential. Prior experience and
education are verified. Reference checking also occurs later in the
process.
PHASE THREE - Present Candidates
Once we have thoroughly evaluated the
candidates, we prepare and present to the client written presentations
on three to four of the most qualified individuals. The Candidate
Presentation Packet which is presented to the client consists of a
standard form resume which is clear and easy to follow and accounts
for the complete employment history. We also include a narrative
candidate profile which discusses specific skill areas, experiences
and accomplishments most critical to the client company. This profile
expands upon the more general resume and highlights those key areas in
a way to clearly demonstrate that the candidate has a track record
that reflects the needs of the client company.
PHASE FOUR - Mediate Offer and Close Engagement
BPS coordinates client interviews and
is prepared to assist, as required, in establishing and presenting the
terms of the offer to the selected candidate. Through our interview
process, we elicit all candidate issues and concerns so that our
corporate clients are prepared to make offers that can be accepted
without extended negotiation, that there are no surprises late in the
search process and so that a positive rapport can be maintained
between the client company and the candidate. BPS provides any
necessary transition assistance to assure smooth entry into the new
position and new environment and we maintain contact during the first
six to twelve months in the new position.
